# Egress

> Egress is outbound network data leaving your app to the internet, free up to 100 GB a month and metered past that.

**Egress is outbound network traffic: data your app sends out to the internet, such as API responses, file downloads, or requests to third-party services.** On Ownkube Compute, egress is metered per account, with the first 100 GB free each month and about \$0.09 per GB after that.

Egress is tracked separately from [active-CPU billing](/docs/glossary/active-cpu-billing) and [working-set memory](/docs/glossary/working-set-memory), since a workload can be CPU-light and memory-light while still moving a lot of data, such as a service that streams files or proxies large responses. Usage past the free 100 GB threshold draws from your [prepaid wallet](/docs/glossary/prepaid-wallet) at the standard rate. Inbound traffic isn't metered; egress only counts data leaving your app, not data arriving at it.

Egress is usually a small line item for typical request and response web traffic, but it can become the dominant cost for workloads that serve large files, video, or bulk API responses. If your app does heavy outbound transfer, egress is worth watching alongside CPU and memory when estimating your monthly bill, since it scales independently of how busy your CPU or memory usage looks.
